Shangri-La Shanghai Tower

Shangri-La Shanghai Tower statement

Designed by Atkins, the same team behind the Burj Al Arab in Dubai, this hotel took 12 years to complete and cost approximately RMB 2 billion. It opened its doors in 2018 and secured 40 patents during construction while addressing five pioneering challenges. The structure clings to an 80-degree inclined abandoned quarry wall. It has only two above-ground levels (UG + G), with 16 underground floors, including two underwater floors. A fully transparent observation elevator, reaching up to 80 meters high, extends from the quarry wall, offering a breathtaking IMAX-like descent experience. On the northwest side of the quarry wall is an artificial waterfall with a drop of nearly 100 meters, directly opposite a fully transparent suspended viewing platform.
